El Osas Iyalekhue premieres WEDLOCK IS NOT FOR GODS
WEDLOCK IS NOT FOR GODS Written and directed By El Osas Iyalekhue is a play set in Jos, a fast paced piece which opens with a climatic plot. Loko, an emergent playwright whose career is failing to make any head way, looks forward to the African Theatre Festival for his big break. He also intends to propose to Oma his girlfriend of seven years after the festival. But all that is marred when Oma finds out he had impregnated Mabel, a young lady he had an affair with while they had a break. A bitter exchange of words puts paid on their relationship...Loko tries to salvage the situation by proposing to Oma, but it's too late...she turns him down amid tears, and in the heat of the crises, a shocking tale of her infidelity surfaces through the spousal tension. Since they are both guilty of the same crime, will they find a common ground where they can love again or let it all go away?
WEDLOCK IS NOT FOR GODS also uses Wedlock of the Gods as a literary motif to open the play. The play basks in very strong language.
WEDLOCK IS NOT FOR GODS, though hinging on fast moving conflict to arrest interest, adopts a Play Within A Play technique to ease the tension and bring some comic relief to the performance through the characters of Fat, Polti and Burma who are friends with Loko. The three absurd characters while creating a plot twist, comment on the theme of infidelity and forgiveness which preoccupies the play.
